Hoverboards are self-balancing scooters that are fun to ride. Whether you are a child or an adult, all can ride this electric scooter as long as they get the right model.
For a hoverboard’s battery to reach full charge, it takes anywhere between 1 and 4 hours. If you have a high-end hoverboard then it may only take 2-3 hours.
How long does a hoverboard last fully charged?
After hoverboard batteries are fully charged, your hoverboard can last up to an hour under normal conditions. Cheaper hoverboards may not even make it to 30 minutes.
How long your hoverboard will last depends on a couple of factors, such as:
- First thing, if you keep your electric vehicle in a good condition, your hoverboard’s battery life will be long.
- Never try to ride your hoverboard on low battery. This will cause unnecessary strain on the lithium-ion batteries inside the hoverboard.
- Weather conditions also impact your hoverboard’s performance. If you ride on rough terrain a lot, this can reduce the hoverboard’s efficiency resulting in a faster loss of battery charge.
- If you do not use the appropriate charger to charge your electronic device, it will lead to battery damage. Always use the original charger for hoverboards.
- Getting rid of old battery versions every year or two is also a good idea. Go for a new battery with the latest technology to maintain the hoverboard’s performance.
How do you know when a hoverboard is fully charged?
To know when your hoverboard has a full charge, pay attention to the light indicator on the hoverboard charger.
If the hoverboard light is green, that means the hoverboard is fully charged. This is how it works:
- When the charger is connected to an active wall socket with power source, it shows a green light. After connecting the charger to the hoverboard, the light indicator shows red light.
- When your light indicator turns green again, it means your device is completely charged and ready for use.
- Always remember to disconnect as soon as your hoverboard finishes charging. Keeping the electronic scooter connected can reduce the battery life.
- The best way to ensure you unplug on time is by understanding the light indicators. Green light means more than 50 per cent battery, yellow means 21 to 49 per cent battery and red means very low battery.
- If the charger only has one indicator light, then a blinking green light implies low charge in the battery.
How to charge a hoverboard
Charging a hoverboard is fairly simple. For any confusion, check the user manual that comes with the hoverboard.
When you leave the hoverboard on charge for the first time that is fine. The first charge can be discounted as an experiment.
But once you have had your first ride please make sure to unplug after every single charge. Now that you know this, follow these steps to charge your hoverboard:
- First, please use the charger that comes in the box. Do not opt for a cheaper replacement charger or a laptop charger.
- Such chargers may not work. In the worst case scenario, they could reduce the hoverboard’s battery life.
- If you buy a new charger, make sure it can provide between 24 and 30 volts of power. Most hoverboards need that voltage to start charging.
- Next, look for an active socket on your wall which can provide the power. When you connect the charger to this socket, a constant red light should appear on the charger.
- After that, when you put the charger’s pin into the hoverboard’s charging port, the light on the charger indicator should turn red.
- Even if the hoverboard is fully charged, the indicator should at least flash the red light once.
- To know when the charge is finished, check the light indicator on the charger. If the light has turned green again that means you are good to go.
- Simply disconnect your hoverboard and go for a ride. A high quality fully charged hoverboard can travel 10 miles.
How long does it take to charge a Bluetooth Hoverboard
This question can be interpreted in two ways:
How long does a hoverboard with Bluetooth take to charge?
How long does it take to charge a hoverboard via Bluetooth?
The first question can be answered thus: the same as any other average hoverboard. In many hoverboards the moment you push the power button, you get access to many features:
- Bluetooth speakers
- LED lights (responsive to the music from the speakers)
- And more
So charging a hoverboard with Bluetooth will take 1 to 4 hours, depending on factors like the type of battery and whether you ride the electric vehicle on a flat surface.
The answer to the second question is also simple. Currently, there is no technology in the world which lets you charge a device through Bluetooth.
Some kind of wire or cable connection is necessary to charge the hoverboard.
However, there are some wireless chargers available for smartphones. These chargers use electromagnetic conduction to transfer energy from the charger to the electronic device.
Such technology is not available for hoverboards for now. Unless it is your first ride, you would know this by now.
How to charge hoverboard without charger
You need some type of charger to get your hoverboard going. And the only way to transmit energy from the charger is through a wire or cable. You cannot use Bluetooth.
However, there are 2 unverified methods that claim to charge a hoverboard without the original charger.
The first method involves rolling your hoverboard to generate a tiny amount of charge. Follow these steps:
- Determine the side of the electronic scooter which has the battery. Depending on the hoverboard brand model, the battery could be either on the left or the right.
- To find out the battery’s location, lift the device and assess which side of the hoverboard is heavier. The heavier side will definitely have the battery.
- Put the hoverboard back on the ground. Now roll the hoverboard to and fro from the battery side using your hands. Do this for about 10 minutes.
- As per unverified sources, this method works but only in the short term. However, it will not dangerous so trying it is not very risky.
The second method is risky and should not be performed. This is just for your information:
- Bring a laptop charger.
- Connect it to the charging port on your hoverboard with the help of a single pin.
- Prop the board in such a way that the laptop charger stays in place.
- Please note that this method can be dangerous. Do not try this.
What are some hoverboard charging problems?
Sometimes you will notice some weird lights blinking on your hoverboard charger. This could mean there is something wrong with either the hoverboard battery or the charger:
- If the light on the charger remains green even after connecting to the hoverboard, this means the charger is not charging your device.
- The reasons for not charging could be a faulty battery or wiring issues.
- If the charger starts blinking orange light, this too could mean a fault has been detected in the hoverboard’s battery.
- If the hoverboard battery is blinking orange light, that means there is something wrong with the hoverboard’s motherboard.
- If the indicator light on the charger blinks green and red, it usually implies low battery.
- When the indicator on the charger does not light up after being connected to the wall socket, it means the charger is damaged. Please buy an authorized charger to replace the old one.
How to charge a hoverboard with a phone charger
Charging a hoverboard with a phone charger is not feasible. The voltage requirements of a phone are much different from those of a hoverboard.
Even the pin of a phone charger is different and will not attach to the port of a hoverboard.
How long does a razor hoverboard take to charge?
Razor is a manufacturer of hoverboards, kick scooters, skateboards and more. They create different types of hoverboards based on class, weights and use.
A typical Razor hoverboard can take 2 to 3 hours to recharge completely.
